A collision led to Susanville getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Mel McCarthy hit a great ball. In the 19th minute, J.P. Lucas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terrence Cooke in the 21st minute of play forced Susanville's goalkeeper Rufus Ware to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Emanuel Hoyt fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Susanville's protests and gave Emanuel Hoyt a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Muskegon AFC booed when Susanville was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emanuel Hoyt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sal West in the 36th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rickey Jean prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vincenzo Muniz in the 37th minute of play forced Muskegon AFC's goalkeeper Rickey Jean to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 40 played minutes Susanville got a freekick which was hit by Mel McCarthy. Rickey Jean made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alonso Flint in the 43rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Susanville's Christopher Hendricks got a free kick in the 44th minute. In the 46thth minute of the game Terrence Cooke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Susanville's Rufus Ware was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Sal West to strike the kick off in the second half. Sal West could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Rickey Jean made a huge save. When the final whistle sounded Susanville left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Muskegon AFC.
