Joe Elmore was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Martin Frederick showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. Connecticut FC's Shayne Herrera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jarvis Dobbs in the 19th minute of play. Shayne Herrera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Jarvis Dobbs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Martin Holcomb was the one to do the kick off.
