After a defensive mix-up in Atlanta United FC's zone, Juan Harris stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Casey Gates came out of the goal and Juan Harris tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The corner was taken by Otis Bates in the 38th minute. After a rather tough play, Adelanto AFC's Emerson Matthews got a free kick in the 40th minute. Sydney Cooley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Monty Lefler, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. If Monty Lefler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Juan Harris received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Casey Gates tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Adelanto AFC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Atlanta United FC were winning 1-2.

With his leg Sydney Cooley managed to avoid a goal in the 55thth minute, when Atlanta United FC's Monty Lefler fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a rather tough play, Adelanto AFC's Emerson Matthews got a free kick in the 55th minute. Sydney Cooley made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jason Dooley in the 57th minute.
