In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Pontiac's goalkeeper Peter Louis, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With his leg Peter Louis managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when Des Plaines River Rats's Glen Ewing fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Lenny Monroe was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 23rd minute. Des Plaines River Rats's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Wayne Crouch's late challenge caught a Des Plaines River Rats's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wayne Crouch helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th minute, Wayne Crouch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lenny Monroe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Tracy Dillard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lenny Monroe stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Pontiac booed when Des Plaines River Rats was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jarod Godwin didn't get a good kick on the ball. 73 minutes into the game, Javier Clark was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pontiac's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Des Plaines River Rats the free kick. The supporters of Des Plaines River Rats booed when Pontiac was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Javier Clark didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Pontiac defense, Lenny Monroe kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Peter Louis. The Pontiac fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Peter Louis should have stopped the shot. Des Plaines River Rats's Glen Ewing got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tracy Dillard hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
