An unexpectedly hard shot by Chris Trujillo in the 8th minute of play forced Sawmills's goalkeeper Nathan Groves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Merlin Hurley managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barcelona USA's supporters rose to their feet, but Merlin Hurley was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nathan Groves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Sawmills defense, Chris Trujillo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nathan Groves. The Sawmills fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nathan Groves should have stopped the shot. If Merlin Hurley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. Bronson Silva blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Brice Garrison having to make a save. Chris Trujillo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nathan Groves having to interfere. Merlin Hurley recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bronson Silva during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sawmills's Bronson Silva got a free kick in the 41st minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Roosevelt Tran was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bronson Silva in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Brice Garrison prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 81st minute the ball was on its way in behind Barcelona USA's goalkeeper Brice Garrison, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, Sawmills's Nathan Groves got control of the ball when Merlin Hurley tried to sneak it across the goal line.
