Marvin Lentz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Zackary McQueen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marvin Lentz in the 13th minute of play forced Islanders's goalkeeper Zackary McQueen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zackary McQueen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgil Sizemore, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marvin Lentz scored 0-2 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Zackary McQueen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dustin Cramer during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 23rd match minute, Islanders was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Caleb Ring to maneuver through the defense. SJ Earthquakes's German Carson got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tory Blue made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Enrique Guy in the 42nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dustin Cramer in the 43rd minute of play forced SJ Earthquakes's goalkeeper Tory Blue to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 45 minutes, Casey Lefler mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Islanders and the SJ Earthquakes players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of SJ Earthquakes booed when Islanders was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Casey Lefler didn't get a good kick on the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Virgil Sizemore made a kick off. After a rather tough play, SJ Earthquakes's Marvin Lentz got a free kick in the 52nd minute. SJ Earthquakes's Tory Blue played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enrique Guy in the 53rd minute of play. Caleb Ring kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. When Virgil Sizemore came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the SJ Earthquakes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Virgil Sizemore couldn't finish the play. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for SJ Earthquakes. Jarod Kimball might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Zackary McQueen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jarod Kimball ran back to his position shaking his head. If Salvatore Rucker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zackary McQueen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Johnathon Case in the 80th minute. The Islanders fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. SJ Earthquakes were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
