An unexpectedly hard shot by Milan Guzman in the 16th minute of play forced MONTERREY's goalkeeper Merle Kincaid to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 18th minute, Julian Hayden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 19th minute Milan Guzman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Merle Kincaid saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Monroe Puckett charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Monroe Puckett the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to MONTERREY getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Monroe Puckett hit a great ball. If Reuben Pate had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Orlando Busch's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ken Winston read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. The supporters of MONTERREY booed when CYCLONES FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nathaniel Swenson didn't get a good kick on the ball. 27 minutes into the game, Reuben Pate was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. CYCLONES FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MONTERREY the free kick. After a rather tough play, CYCLONES FC's Reuben Pate got a free kick in the 27th minute. Milan Guzman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. In the 37thth minute of the game Reuben Pate who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but MONTERREY's Merle Kincaid was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Merle Kincaid showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Milan Guzman, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Reuben Pate received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Merle Kincaid tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 43rd minute, Reuben Pate hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chad Molina was shown his second yellow card after 47 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Orlando Busch to strike the kick off in the second half. After 61 played minutes MONTERREY got a freekick which was hit by Orlando Busch. Milan Guzman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Merle Kincaid tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Milan Guzman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Merle Kincaid having to interfere. Nathaniel Swenson kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. With a little luck, MONTERREY's Merle Kincaid got control of the ball when Milan Guzman tried to sneak it across the goal line.
