The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. NY92's Ezra Hendrix played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Merrill Devine in the 9th minute of play. In the 13thth minute of the game Leroy Bernard who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but NY92's Ezra Hendrix was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Leroy Bernard struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Ezra Hendrix didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Virginia Gardens AFC. When Virginia Gardens AFC's Merrill Devine in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye NY92's goalie prevented a goal. Dylan Dawkins struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Antony Leal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for NY92. Antony Leal made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vito Randolph in the 20th minute. 24 minutes into the match, Virginia Gardens AFC's goalkeeper Antony Leal had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vito Randolph. Virginia Gardens AFC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 26th minute, when Dylan Dawkins scored to the left of an out of position Antony Leal, making the score, 1-0. If Vito Randolph had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Leroy Bernard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Ezra Hendrix tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 44 minutes into the match, NY92's goal looked a bit too open when Merrill Devine came free, but Ezra Hendrix reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Houston Rudolph kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. If Dylan Dawkins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 50th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Merrill Devine to make the kick off. Merrill Devine fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ezra Hendrix having to interfere. Ollie Swanson's late challenge caught a Virginia Gardens AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ollie Swanson helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, NY92's Ollie Swanson got a free kick in the 56th minute. Ezra Hendrix showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Merrill Devine, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. A collision led to NY92 getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Rocky Shipman hit a great ball. Ezra Hendrix came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Virginia Gardens AFC's Merrill Devine. But to his dismay, Merrill Devine quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 66th minute Dylan Dawkins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antony Leal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Virginia Gardens AFC's zone, Vito Randolph stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antony Leal came out of the goal and Vito Randolph tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of NY92 booed when Virginia Gardens AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Houston Rudolph didn't get a good kick on the ball. 72 minutes into the game, Leroy Bernard was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Virginia Gardens AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave NY92 the free kick. After a rather tough play, Virginia Gardens AFC's Leroy Bernard got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Houston Rudolph charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Houston Rudolph the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 77 played minutes Virginia Gardens AFC got a freekick which was hit by Houston Rudolph. Vito Randolph fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antony Leal having to interfere. Vito Randolph received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Antony Leal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Antony Leal had in the 89thth minute some difficulties stopping Thad Bledsoe's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 89th minute, Thad Bledsoe ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Antony Leal was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. NY92's Ezra Hendrix proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 100th minute of the match, managed to save NY92 from getting a goal against them. Ezra Hendrix made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Merrill Devine in the 101st minute of play. Virginia Gardens AFC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
