In the 6th minute, Derick Hood reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jeff McGrath. The goal made the score 1-0. After 9 minutes, Emmitt Quinn mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kannapolis AFC and the Klova FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Klova FC booed when Kannapolis AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emmitt Quinn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dirk Agoos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Jeff McGrath tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Kannapolis AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Rodney Shafer came free, but Jeff McGrath reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th minute Dirk Agoos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeff McGrath saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Laurence Stacy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Devin Sherrill having to interfere. Devin Sherrill made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Benny Tovar sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Klova FC getting a freekick after 76 minutes play.
