Riley Thurston fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darrel Whalen having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Bakersfield SC's goal looked a bit too open when Riley Thurston came free, but Darrel Whalen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Darrel Whalen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Merrill Jean, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 36 played minutes Bakersfield SC got a freekick which was hit by Blaine Henson. Tara Hills's Merrill Jean got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Riley Thurston came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Tara Hills fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Riley Thurston couldn't finish the play. Riley Thurston might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Darrel Whalen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Riley Thurston ran back to his position shaking his head. If Riley Thurston had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Merrill Jean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sydney Sheehan in the 90th minute of play forced Tara Hills's goalkeeper Rex Ambriz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 94th minute Angelo Gregg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rex Ambriz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Tara Hills players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
