The crowd rose to their feet as Dana Countess kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Vito Oberle. That made the score 1-1 in the 40 minute of play. After some careless play in the Atlanta FC defense, Phil Dudley kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Foster Patterson. The Atlanta FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Foster Patterson should have stopped the shot. Angelo Eubanks might have been able to make a better finish in the 47th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Foster Patterson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Angelo Eubanks ran back to his position shaking his head. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eric Tripp to make the kick off. Foster Patterson made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Angelo Eubanks sent off a good shot on target. After 88 minutes, Murray Gordon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atlanta FC and the 4th Republic USA players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Atlanta FC's Murray Gordon got a free kick in the 88th minute. Angelo Eubanks fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Foster Patterson having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Brad Robles in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vito Oberle saved 4th Republic USA from getting behind. Atlanta FC's Foster Patterson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to save Atlanta FC from getting a goal against them. Vito Oberle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brad Robles in the 97th minute of the match. 4th Republic USA's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
