The player immediately received a yellow card. After 8 played minutes Cuba City got a freekick which was hit by Gilbert Hammons. Cuba City's Douglas Acosta got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 19 minutes into the match, Ervin Herbert had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Giuseppe Kearney. Newman's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ervin Herbert was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Ervin Herbert received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Giuseppe Kearney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Cuba City booed when Newman was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marc Dickens didn't get a good kick on the ball. Newman's Giuseppe Kearney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Newman from getting a goal against them. If Ervin Herbert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 37 minutes, Osvaldo Ferrell managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newman's supporters crossed their fingers, but Osvaldo Ferrell was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Ervin Herbert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Douglas Acosta was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lyle Wilhelm in the 51st minute of play forced Cuba City's goalkeeper Basil Wray to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Newman's zone, Douglas Acosta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Giuseppe Kearney came out of the goal and Douglas Acosta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Ervin Herbert's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Giuseppe Kearney was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. After 59 played minutes Cuba City got a freekick which was hit by Cobi Newcomb. Basil Wray was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Napoleon Ventura. Jarod McGill fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basil Wray having to interfere. Cuba City's Douglas Acosta got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 69th minute Ervin Herbert shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Giuseppe Kearney saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lyle Wilhelm struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Basil Wray didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newman. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lyle Wilhelm in the 72nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Basil Wray saved Cuba City from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Cuba City's zone, Lyle Wilhelm stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Basil Wray came out of the goal and Lyle Wilhelm tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Lyle Wilhelm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Newman's Giuseppe Kearney played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ervin Herbert in the 81st minute of play. Lyle Wilhelm fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basil Wray having to interfere. In the 85th minute Lyle Wilhelm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basil Wray saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 86th minute, Lyle Wilhelm got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Ervin Herbert managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cuba City's supporters rose to their feet, but Ervin Herbert was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Giuseppe Kearney breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 91 minutes, Napoleon Ventura mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Newman and the Cuba City players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Newman's Napoleon Ventura got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Douglas Acosta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. For all the effort they put into the match, the Newman players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Cuba City.
