Edgardo Harper received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Merle Spicer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Sherman Larson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Shazam FC's Dillon Trotter in the 8th minute got a chance for a shot 8th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye South Orange AFC's goalie prevented a goal. In the 9th match minute, South Orange AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cameron Cronin to maneuver through the defense. When Geoff Shapiro fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored South Orange AFC's protests and gave Geoff Shapiro a yellow card for diving instead. Sherman Larson scored 2-0 in the 16th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jeffrey Carney, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Edgardo Harper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Scot Kimball took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Merle Spicer. Merle Spicer dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. 32 minutes into the match, Shazam FC's goal looked a bit too open when Edgardo Harper came free, but Merle Spicer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edgardo Harper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geoff Shapiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Merle Spicer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to South Orange AFC getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Cameron Cronin hit a great ball. When Sherman Larson came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Shazam FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sherman Larson couldn't finish the play. Dillon Trotter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Merle Spicer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for South Orange AFC. In the 81st minute Edgardo Harper shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Merle Spicer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dillon Trotter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeffrey Carney having to interfere. Geoff Shapiro took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Merle Spicer. Merle Spicer dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Sherman Larson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Shazam FC booed when South Orange AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oren Thurston didn't get a good kick on the ball. South Orange AFC's Jeffrey Carney played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dillon Trotter in the 98th minute of play. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
