The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Vern Chester kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Teodoro Robbins's late challenge caught a STL City FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Teodoro Robbins helped the player get up and apologised. In the 9thth minute of the game Glen Duarte who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but High Point AFC's Tyron Carrillo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. STL City FC's Jay Burkett played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Domingo Hooks in the 15th minute of play. Jay Burkett showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulysses Clifford in the 19th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Domingo Hooks in the 23rd minute of play forced STL City FC's goalkeeper Jay Burkett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tyron Carrillo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Glen Duarte, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ulysses Clifford in the 29th minute of play forced STL City FC's goalkeeper Jay Burkett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jay Burkett came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by High Point AFC's Domingo Hooks. But to his dismay, Domingo Hooks quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Ulysses Clifford struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Jay Burkett didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for High Point AFC. If Domingo Hooks had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tyron Carrillo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Glen Duarte in the 38th minute. Tyron Carrillo made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Ty Taylor sent off a good shot on target. Reynaldo Sorenson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Glen Duarte came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the STL City FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Glen Duarte couldn't finish the play. 47 minutes into the match, High Point AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Glen Duarte came free, but Tyron Carrillo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Thanks to some nice moves Ulysses Clifford could shoot a difficult shot in the 69th minute, which Jay Burkett however easily saved by the left post. 70 minutes into the match, Berry Sheehan dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jay Burkett, 0-3. Jay Burkett made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eusebio Newby in the 78th minute of play. Glen Duarte received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Tyron Carrillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 84th minute Domingo Hooks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jay Burkett saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ulysses Clifford scored 0-4 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jay Burkett, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of STL City FC booed when High Point AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Darron Greer didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the High Point AFC defense, Glen Duarte kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tyron Carrillo. The High Point AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tyron Carrillo should have stopped the shot. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. High Point AFC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
