After 36 minutes, Blair Levy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Glen Ellyn and the SL FIRES players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ollie Goode sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in SL FIRES's zone, Bernie Saucedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vern Chapman came out of the goal and Bernie Saucedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ollie Goode sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. SL FIRES's Vern Chapman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vern DeJesus in the 46th minute of play. In the 47th minute, Rory Carrington hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Bernie Saucedo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Glen Ellyn's supporters rose to their feet, but Bernie Saucedo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vern Chapman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Elliott Stapleton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ken Forrest, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. When Vern DeJesus fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Glen Ellyn's protests and gave Vern DeJesus a yellow card for diving instead. In the 57th minute, Vern DeJesus hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of SL FIRES booed when Glen Ellyn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anders Ersman didn't get a good kick on the ball. 61 minutes into the match, SL FIRES's goalkeeper Vern Chapman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ollie Goode. Glen Ellyn's Ollie Goode got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rory Carrington received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Elliott Stapleton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rory Carrington struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Elliott Stapleton didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SL FIRES. 71 minutes into the game, Forrest Swift was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SL FIRES's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Glen Ellyn the free kick. In the 72nd minute, Forrest Swift hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in SL FIRES's zone, Bernie Saucedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vern Chapman came out of the goal and Bernie Saucedo tried to chip the ball over his head. SL FIRES's Vern Chapman proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save SL FIRES from getting a goal against them. When Ollie Goode came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Glen Ellyn fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ollie Goode couldn't finish the play. Vern Chapman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Bernie Saucedo went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. A collision led to Glen Ellyn getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Anders Ersman hit a great ball. In the 87th match minute, SL FIRES was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Forrest Swift to maneuver through the defense. In the 93rd minute Ollie Goode shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vern Chapman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
