After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Marquis Stahl managed to get in a good position for a shot. Soplanucas en Brooklyn's supporters rose to their feet, but Marquis Stahl was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerardo Shields breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpected shot in the 42nd minute by Jermaine Faulkner got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 47 minutes into the match, Steger AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Elvis Call came free, but Gerardo Shields reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Renato McLain in the 89th minute of play forced Soplanucas en Brooklyn's goalkeeper Titus Nicholas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gerardo Shields made an important save on a dangerous shot by Elvis Call in the 92nd minute. Soplanucas en Brooklyn's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
