In the 11th minute Rex Nance shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristopher Grayson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Vance Vann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vance Vann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Elmhurst AFC's Kristopher Grayson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Elmhurst AFC from getting a goal against them. Edward Blum showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vance Vann in the 29th minute of the match. Basil Barlow received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Edward Blum tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tony Franco kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. After having played for 38 minutes, Rod Stephens managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Elmhurst AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rod Stephens was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Elmhurst AFC's Ernie Marrero got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Through an outstanding action, after 43 minutes, Kristopher Grayson successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tony Franco stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 53 minutes, Basil Barlow managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Elmhurst AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Basil Barlow was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Edward Blum was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ernie Marrero showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 54 minute of play. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Fruitvale AFC's goalkeeper Edward Blum, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Kristopher Grayson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tony Franco in the 81st minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Fruitvale AFC's zone, Ernie Marrero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edward Blum came out of the goal and Ernie Marrero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 90 played minutes Fruitvale AFC got a freekick which was hit by Tony Franco. The supporters of Elmhurst AFC booed when Fruitvale AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rex Nance didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 94 minutes, Roscoe Jacob mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Elmhurst AFC and the Fruitvale AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Kristopher Grayson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jesse Mayer in the 96th minute of the match. Elmhurst AFC played a much better game than Fruitvale AFC and deserved their victory. The Fruitvale AFC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
