The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, L A Cosmos's Norberto Wiseman got a free kick in the 6th minute. Troy Mitchell in the 9thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Kevin Vigil, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When Bennett Phillips came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Houston Rockets fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bennett Phillips couldn't finish the play. Val Leach hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. After 15 played minutes Houston Rockets got a freekick which was hit by Bennett Phillips. Troy Mitchells short, quick shot in the 20thth minute got Kevin Vigil to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. L A Cosmos's Kevin Vigil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Troy Mitchell in the 22nd minute of play. 23 minutes into the game, Troy Wills was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Houston Rockets's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave L A Cosmos the free kick. A collision led to Houston Rockets getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Troy Wills hit a great ball. In the 29thth minute of the game Troy Mitchell who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but L A Cosmos's Kevin Vigil was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. A hard shot 31 in the game by Troy Mitchell from a close distance when the talented Kevin Vigil managed to make a qualified save. L A Cosmos's players were relieved. Kevin Vigil stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Troy Mitchell's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. Troy Mitchell struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Kevin Vigil didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Houston Rockets. After 41st play minutes Troy Mitchell shot 1-0, a short shot which went by Kevin Vigil and just under the crossbar into goal. Bennett Phillips sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 46th minute, Troy Mitchell got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

Troy Mitchell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kevin Vigil having to interfere. In the 59th match minute, L A Cosmos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Randolph Curran to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Houston Rockets's Ivan Kerns got a free kick in the 60th minute. After 64 minutes of play, Houston Rockets's Bennett Phillips made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Kevin Vigil was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Bennett Phillips had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Bennett Phillips managed to get in a good position for a shot. Houston Rockets's supporters rose to their feet, but Bennett Phillips was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kevin Vigil breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Troy Mitchell's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kevin Vigil was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. Kevin Vigil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Troy Mitchell, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Lenny Lehman kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. The supporters of L A Cosmos booed when Houston Rockets was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lenny Lehman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Troy Mitchell in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kevin Vigil prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Troy Mitchell struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Kevin Vigil didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Houston Rockets.
