The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lucien Rhodes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oliver Hinds in the 16th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Tyson Stahl managed to get in a good position for a shot. Spartak NY's supporters rose to their feet, but Tyson Stahl was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kevin Vigil breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Gerald McMullen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kevin Vigil was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Gerald McMullen took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Kevin Vigil to make any attempt to save it. If Terrell Burnham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Terrell Burnham to strike the kick off in the second half. Kevin Vigil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Corona, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Donny Hager took the ball and in the 52 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kevin Vigil. Kevin Vigil dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Donny Hager sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gerald McMullen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Kevin Vigil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerald McMullen in the 59th minute of play. In the 64th minute Gerald McMullen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kevin Vigil saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Gerald McMullen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 70 minutes into the match, Spartak NY's Bo Herman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kevin Vigil narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 72nd minute, Tyson Stahl got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Terrell Burnham could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 75th minute of the match, but Lucien Rhodes made a huge save. Kevin Vigil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tyson Stahl, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tyson Stahl in the 83rd minute of play forced L A Cosmos's goalkeeper Kevin Vigil to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Donny Hager charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Donny Hager the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 88 played minutes Spartak NY got a freekick which was hit by Donny Hager. Terrell Burnham's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lucien Rhodes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 93rd minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the L A Cosmos players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Spartak NY.
