Johnnie Robertson hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Douglas DeJesus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marlon Vilter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Milan Sumner having to interfere. During the 11th minute of the match Johnnie Robertson completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Johnnie Robertson a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 11th match minute, Sauk Rapids was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johnnie Robertson to maneuver through the defense. If Cory Michael had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Sauk Rapids booed when Gates was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Murray Baxter didn't get a good kick on the ball. Freddy Roy acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 22nd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Armando Adair. After a rather tough play, Gates's Murray Baxter got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Marlon Vilter recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Sauk Rapids getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Derick McKenna hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marlon Vilter in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Milan Sumner prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Kory Kenney could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Freddy Roy made a huge save. After having played for 39 minutes, Marlon Vilter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gates's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marlon Vilter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 40th minute, Marlon Vilter got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Marlon Vilter sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kory Kenney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Freddy Roy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
After a rather tough play, Sauk Rapids's Rick Hunt got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Gates's Marlon Vilter got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 59th minute, Marlon Vilter got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Marlon Vilter struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Milan Sumner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gates. Sauk Rapids's Milan Sumner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marlon Vilter in the 61st minute of play. The audience was convinced that Marlon Vilter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Milan Sumner was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. Freddy Roy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kory Kenney, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. After a rather tough play, Sauk Rapids's Derick McKenna got a free kick in the 69th minute. Kory Kenney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Freddy Roy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 74 minutes, Marlon Vilter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Milan Sumner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Douglas DeJesus, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 79th match minute, Sauk Rapids was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rick Hunt to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 84 minutes, Marlon Vilter took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Milan Sumner to make any attempt to save it. If Cory Michael had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Sauk Rapids's zone, Douglas DeJesus stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Milan Sumner came out of the goal and Douglas DeJesus tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gates's Freddy Roy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kory Kenney in the 93rd minute of play. The supporters of Sauk Rapids booed when Gates was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ramiro Orozco didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Gates walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
