In the 9thth minute of the game Weldon Numbers who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but New York Red Bulls FC's Sam McIntyre was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 11 minutes, Weldon Numbers mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Monte Vista AFC and the New York Red Bulls FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 11th match minute, Monte Vista AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Weldon Numbers to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Monte Vista AFC booed when New York Red Bulls FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavin Griffin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sam McIntyre took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Weldon Numbers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Willie Carbajal made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Gilson do Vale sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in New York Red Bulls FC's zone, Gerald Vigil stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sam McIntyre came out of the goal and Gerald Vigil tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cícero Amaral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 38 minutes into the match, Monte Vista AFC's goalkeeper Willie Carbajal had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gilson do Vale. 39 minutes into the game, Gilson do Vale cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Willie Carbajal was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. New York Red Bulls FC's Sam McIntyre played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gerald Vigil in the 45th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Weldon Numbers was the one to do the kick off. 58 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls FC's goalkeeper Sam McIntyre had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gerald Vigil. A collision led to Monte Vista AFC getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Weldon Numbers hit a great ball. After 67 minutes of play, New York Red Bulls FC's Gilson do Vale made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Willie Carbajal was left in no man's land by his defense there! New York Red Bulls FC's Sam McIntyre proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save New York Red Bulls FC from getting a goal against them. The supporters of New York Red Bulls FC booed when Monte Vista AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kasey Weaver didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 81st match minute, Monte Vista AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Solomon Melvin to maneuver through the defense. After 85 played minutes Monte Vista AFC got a freekick which was hit by Franklin Townsend. When Cícero Amaral came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the New York Red Bulls FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cícero Amaral couldn't finish the play. New York Red Bulls FC's Gilson do Vale got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilson do Vale in the 91st minute of play forced Monte Vista AFC's goalkeeper Willie Carbajal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 96 played minutes Monte Vista AFC got a freekick which was hit by Kasey Weaver. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. New York Red Bulls FC fully deserved thier win.
