In the 17th minute Roscoe Hurd shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pablo Sweet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. INTER MIAMI's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Roland Fair in the 18th minute. The corner ended in Vernon Jarrell almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Poplar Tent's Pablo Sweet did a great save. After 20 played minutes Poplar Tent got a freekick which was hit by Maurice Baca. In the 20th minute of the match Roland Fair sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pablo Sweet skillfully saved the ball. Pablo Sweet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Cummins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Poplar Tent's Pablo Sweet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roscoe Hurd in the 24th minute of play. After having played for 26 minutes, Roland Fair managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Toby Baxter during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Poplar Tent's zone, Ronny Cummins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pablo Sweet came out of the goal and Ronny Cummins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 41st minute, Salvador Goins ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Monty Pepper was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. Toby Baxter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pablo Sweet having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ronny Cummins to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the match Fernando Orozco shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Monty Pepper showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The supporters of Poplar Tent booed when INTER MIAMI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zachary Albert didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sergio Christian in the 55th minute of play forced INTER MIAMI's goalkeeper Monty Pepper to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reynaldo Lin struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Monty Pepper didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Poplar Tent. After 67 minutes Poplar Tent's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Roland Fair who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Robby Fairchild almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Poplar Tent's Pablo Sweet did a great save. Ronny Cummins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Pablo Sweet made a huge save. In the 71st play minute Ronny Cummins came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Pablo Sweet. 3-2. Ronny Cummins might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Pablo Sweet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronny Cummins ran back to his position shaking his head. Ronny Cummins who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 79thth minute tested the skills of Pablo Sweet when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 80th minute of the match INTER MIAMI got a corner. Poplar Tent's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Roland Fair ran over to the corner to take the kick. Pablo Sweet made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Roland Fair sent off a good shot on target. Poplar Tent's Pablo Sweet proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save Poplar Tent from getting a goal against them.
