Anacortes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grayville the free kick. In the 24th match minute, Anacortes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gustavo Bergstrom to maneuver through the defense. Grayville's Ali Jacobson got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jessie Haines in the 46th minute of play forced Grayville's goalkeeper Quentin Clifford to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Shane Hutton to make the kick off. In the 55th match minute, Grayville was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tim McClelland to maneuver through the defense. The tension between the Grayville and the Anacortes players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Anacortes booed when Grayville was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jimmy Shockley didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 66th minute the ball was on its way in behind Grayville's goalkeeper Quentin Clifford, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
