In the 5th minute, one of Knoxville United FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Knoxville United FC. After 6 minutes Knoxville United FC's goalkeeper Felix Cowan managed, with a little bit of luck, save Garth Smart's penalty, on his right side after a tricky shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thanh Maloney in the 8th minute of play forced Floral City's goalkeeper Curt Herring to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 9th match minute, Floral City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Garth Smart to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Brian Smiley got free with Felix Cowan in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Curt Herring showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Son Gaines, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Brian Smiley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Curt Herring came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by Knoxville United FC's Son Gaines. But to his dismay, Son Gaines quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thanh Maloney in the 24th minute of play forced Floral City's goalkeeper Curt Herring to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Raul Gore hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Brian Smiley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felix Cowan having to interfere. If Son Gaines had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Curt Herring showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Son Gaines, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Felix Cowan didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Brian Smiley went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Son Gaines struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Curt Herring didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Knoxville United FC. An unexpectedly hard shot by Son Gaines in the 44th minute of play forced Floral City's goalkeeper Curt Herring to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 46thth minute of the game Thanh Maloney who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Floral City's Curt Herring was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Brian Smiley made a kick off. Thanh Maloney kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Brian Smiley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Felix Cowan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 60 minutes into the match, Floral City's goal looked a bit too open when Thanh Maloney came free, but Curt Herring reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Son Gaines sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Derrick Pierre hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. 75 minutes into the match, Floral City's goal looked a bit too open when Thanh Maloney came free, but Curt Herring reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Knoxville United FC booed when Floral City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Garth Smart didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 78th minute, Derrick Pierre left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Floral City fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Thanh Maloney kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Curt Herring. That made the score 2-3 in the 81 minute of play. In the 88th minute Brian Smiley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Felix Cowan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brian Smiley's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Felix Cowan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. The Knoxville United FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
