Ding Mata scored 1-0 in the 5th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Felix Cowan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 9 minutes into the match, Kyle Háva notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Universitatea7 Cluj's Jamel Ivy. Jamel Ivy was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ding Mata who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 12thth minute tested the skills of Felix Cowan when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 14th minute, Universitatea7 Cluj's Ding Mata ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Felix Cowan. Felix Cowan yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Ding Mata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jamel Ivy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Son Gaines, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. If Wilmer Robinson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kyle Háva during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Thanh Maloney made the kick off in the second half. Felix Cowan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wendell Rooney, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. A collision led to Knoxville United FC getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Ahmed Evans hit a great ball. After 67 minutes, Ding Mata made it 4-1 with a short kick to the right side. Knoxville United FC's Felix Cowan tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience was convinced that Ding Mata's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Felix Cowan was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Universitatea7 Cluj fully deserved thier win.
