Match Report
Lewes
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Lewes's Lenny Aranda started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 7th play minutes Merrill Justice shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Tanner Fish and just under the crossbar into goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silas Hatch in the 15th minute of play forced Miami Gators's goalkeeper Owen Baker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Silas Hatch got free with Owen Baker in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 20th minute, Merrill Justice ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tanner Fish was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Lenny Aranda kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Merrill Justice in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tanner Fish saved Lewes from getting behind. Lenny Aranda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Silas Hatch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 38 minutes, Silas Hatch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lewes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Silas Hatch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tanner Fish showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Milo Winn in the 44th minute of the match. In the 46th minute, Merrill Justice got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After the first half Miami Gators were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Merrill Justice stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tanner Fish made an important save on a dangerous shot by Milo Winn in the 51st minute. After 53 minutes, Jeremy Hackett mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Miami Gators and the Lewes players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Merrill Justice in the 55th minute of play forced Lewes's goalkeeper Tanner Fish to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Miami Gators getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Ramiro Workman hit a great ball. 58 minutes into the match, Milo Winn had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tanner Fish. Lewes's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Milo Winn was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. The audience thought a goal was coming when Milo Winn got free with Tanner Fish in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Lenny Aranda might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Owen Baker. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lenny Aranda ran back to his position shaking his head. Lenny Aranda's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Owen Baker read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 71st minute of play. Silas Hatch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Owen Baker having to interfere. In the 77th minute, Lenny Aranda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lewes's defense didn't have a chance, in the 78th minute, when Jacob Knapp scored to the left of an out of position Tanner Fish, making the score, 0-5. The supporters of Lewes booed when Miami Gators was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Milo Winn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jacob Knapp kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Jeremy Hackett hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. When Silas Hatch fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lewes's protests and gave Silas Hatch a yellow card for diving instead. Although Lewes had been in control for most of the match, Miami Gators still came away with the win.
