Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adam Doran in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gunnar Andreasson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jamar Patton took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised William Nordkvist. William Nordkvist dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jamar Patton in the 30th minute of play forced Colorado FC's goalkeeper William Nordkvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 33 minutes into the match, Colorado FC's goal looked a bit too open when DeAndre Plummer came free, but William Nordkvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 33rdth minute of the game DeAndre Plummer who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Colorado FC's William Nordkvist was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jamar Patton in the 34th minute of play forced Colorado FC's goalkeeper William Nordkvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. DeAndre Plummer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. William Nordkvist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tom Erickson hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Jimmy Kaplan kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Abelardo Esquipula sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. William Nordkvist didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from DeAndre Plummer went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell DeAndre Plummer to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Colorado FC's Tom Erickson got a free kick in the 55th minute. If Julian Matthews had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. DeAndre Plummer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. William Nordkvist made an important save on a dangerous shot by DeAndre Plummer in the 61st minute. 63 minutes into the match, Colorado FC's goalkeeper William Nordkvist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Julian Matthews. In the 64th minute, Jamar Patton made a precise shot to the right of William Nordkvist. Colorado FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. Wigan Athletic FC made a substitution. Billy Estes replaced Gorri Betancurt. In the 69th minute of the match, Dustin Schroeder tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but William Nordkvist saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 69 played minutes Colorado FC got a freekick which was hit by Tom Erickson. Dustin Schroeder blasted a shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without William Nordkvist having to make a save. In the 72nd minute, Dale Bryant hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. DeAndre Plummer could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 76th minute of the match, but William Nordkvist made a huge save. Julian Matthews succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-5 in the 78th playminute. Colorado FC's goalkeeper couldn't reach when DeAndre Plummer 80 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-6. 88 minutes into the match, Colorado FC's goal looked a bit too open when Billy Estes came free, but William Nordkvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95th match minute, Wigan Athletic FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vince Vansteenbrugge to maneuver through the defense. When the match was over Wigan Athletic FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Colorado FC throughout the match.
