In the 17th minute, Leroy Blackburn hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ryan Esparza in the 18th minute of play forced Phoenix Suns Atletic's goalkeeper Bill Burger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 19 minutes into the game, Shayne Cagle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Bill Burger was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Bill Burger showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Shayne Cagle in the 22nd minute of the match. Phoenix Suns Atletic's Bill Burger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodolfo Cordero in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Shayne Cagle had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bill Burger. Phoenix Suns Atletic's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Shayne Cagle was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. 27 minutes into the match, Phoenix Suns Atletic's goal looked a bit too open when Shayne Cagle came free, but Bill Burger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Phoenix Suns Atletic's goal looked a bit too open when Jude Blankenship came free, but Bill Burger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Phoenix Suns Atletic's Bill Burger tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. If Rodolfo Cordero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes into the match, Phoenix Suns Atletic's goal looked a bit too open when Jude Blankenship came free, but Bill Burger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bill Burger made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jude Blankenship in the 39th minute of play. After 40 minutes Phoenix Suns Atletic's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ryan Esparza who took care of the corner kick. Waterbury Rangers's Ryan Esparza was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bill Burger in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Bill Burger took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jude Blankenship, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-7 lead.

Waterbury Rangers's Truman Haines was substituted for Werner Comer. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Shayne Cagle to make the kick off. 53 minutes into the game, Gustavo Blair was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Phoenix Suns Atletic's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Waterbury Rangers the free kick. After a rather tough play, Phoenix Suns Atletic's Gustavo Blair got a free kick in the 53rd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Shayne Cagle kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Bill Burger. That made the score 0-8 in the 55 minute of play. Preston Winston could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Bill Burger made a huge save. In the 58th match minute, Phoenix Suns Atletic was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Levi Kent to maneuver through the defense. After 60 played minutes Phoenix Suns Atletic got a freekick which was hit by Jesus Waller. 60 minutes into the match, Phoenix Suns Atletic's goalkeeper Bill Burger had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rodolfo Cordero. When Troy Rangel came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Waterbury Rangers fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Troy Rangel couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Phoenix Suns Atletic getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Gustavo Blair hit a great ball. 69 minutes into the match, Phoenix Suns Atletic's goal looked a bit too open when Shayne Cagle came free, but Bill Burger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 69th minute Shayne Cagle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bill Burger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 71st minute, Preston Winston left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Waterbury Rangers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-9. Jude Blankenship struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Bill Burger didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Waterbury Rangers. A collision led to Phoenix Suns Atletic getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Seth Deleon hit a great ball. Bill Burger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shayne Cagle, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. In the 80th minute Waterbury Rangers were awarded a corner. Ryan Esparza went to the cornerflag to take it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rodolfo Cordero got free with Bill Burger in the 82nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 83rd minute, Shayne Cagle reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Bill Burger. The goal made the score 0-10. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, Troy Rangel took a quick shot and it went in 0-11 without a chance for Bill Burger to make any attempt to save it. Troy Rangel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bill Burger having to interfere. Waterbury Rangers's Milton Canales was substituted for Rodolfo Cordero. Bill Burger made an important save on a dangerous shot by Milton Canales in the 95th minute. Waterbury Rangers's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
