Gaitano Doblas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oroitz Alaiza in the 14th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Talavera AFC's zone, Ambrosio Villamandos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gaitano Doblas came out of the goal and Ambrosio Villamandos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Baiona Ronquillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Remigio Traus read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. Baiona Ronquillo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eladio Almiron received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Remigio Traus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eladio Almiron fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Remigio Traus having to interfere. When Oroitz Alaiza came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Cerro Porteño fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Oroitz Alaiza couldn't finish the play. In the 35th minute, Talavera AFC's Eladio Almiron ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Remigio Traus. Remigio Traus yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. 48 minutes into the match, Talavera AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Oroitz Alaiza came free, but Gaitano Doblas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. It was a well-played corner which Salvador Gayferos managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. 50 minutes into the game, Salvador Gayferos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cerro Porteño's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Talavera AFC the free kick. The supporters of Talavera AFC booed when Cerro Porteño was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Salvador Gayferos didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Oroitz Alaiza was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eladio Almiron in the 62nd minute of play forced Cerro Porteño's goalkeeper Remigio Traus to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 91st minute, Eladio Almiron made a precise shot to the right of Remigio Traus. Cerro Porteño's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. In the 96thth minute of the game Baiona Ronquillo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cerro Porteño's Remigio Traus was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baiona Ronquillo in the 98th minute of play forced Cerro Porteño's goalkeeper Remigio Traus to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ambrosio Villamandos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 101st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cerro Porteño's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
