Monte Cristi's Wilmer De La Hoz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivan Banister in the 8th minute of play. If Ivan Banister had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The supporters of Monte Cristi booed when Santiago FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hipólito Parra didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivan Banister sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aaron Rentería struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Wilmer De La Hoz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santiago FC. After 19 played minutes Santiago FC got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Monroy. Fausto Mondragón received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Carlos Monroy hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Conrado Solorzano got free with Gabriel Martel in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Conrado Solorzano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilmer De La Hoz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivan Banister in the 34th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Monte Cristi's Conrado Solorzano slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gabriel Martel. That made the score 1-0 after 35 minutes of play. The audience was convinced that Omar Avellanos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gabriel Martel was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. Conrado Solorzano blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gabriel Martel having to make a save. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Omar Avellanos made a kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Amado Godín was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Santiago FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Monte Cristi the free kick. After 51 played minutes Santiago FC got a freekick which was hit by Amado Godín. With a little luck, Monte Cristi's Wilmer De La Hoz got control of the ball when Hipólito Parra tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Conrado Solorzano came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Monte Cristi fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Conrado Solorzano couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Omar Avellanos in the 95th minute of play forced Santiago FC's goalkeeper Gabriel Martel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilmer De La Hoz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ivan Banister showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-2 in the 97 minute of play. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
