The referee ignored SD Capotillo's protests and gave Miguel Ángel Reyes a yellow card for diving instead. Hipólito Parra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andrés Quintanilla having to interfere. 36 minutes into the match, Santiago FC's goal looked a bit too open when José Luis Hidalgo came free, but Gabriel Martel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. José Luis Hidalgo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 40 minutes, Jafet Angulo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SD Capotillo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jafet Angulo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, SD Capotillo's Jafet Angulo got a free kick in the 42nd minute. In the 45th minute Ivan Banister shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andrés Quintanilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hipólito Parra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Andrés Quintanilla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when José Luis Hidalgo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ciriaco Minaya charged in rather forcefully in the 57th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ciriaco Minaya the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a little luck, SD Capotillo's Andrés Quintanilla got control of the ball when Hipólito Parra tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luis Vega during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
