With a little luck, San Juan's Santino Villarreal got control of the ball when Wandy Cañas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Wandy Cañas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Santino Villarreal made a huge save. Wandy Cañas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Julio Rojas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Robinson Montañas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Villa Rivas defense, Mauro Correa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Robinson Montañas. The Villa Rivas fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Robinson Montañas should have stopped the shot. 46 minutes into the match, Villa Rivas's goal looked a bit too open when Tito Solís came free, but Robinson Montañas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eude Espínola sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Villa Rivas players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. San Juan were winning 0-2.

Julio Rojas was shown his second yellow card after 52 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Villa Rivas's Robinson Montañas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Villa Rivas from getting a goal against them. Eude Espínola fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santino Villarreal having to interfere. Tito Solís sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 78th minute, Wandy Cañas left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Villa Rivas fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. After 82 minutes, Dario Alvarez mouthed his way into the referee's book. Mauro Correa's late challenge caught a Villa Rivas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. San Juan had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
