Germán Romero breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Homero Bravo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcelo Barela in the 15th minute of the match. Enriquillo's Germán Romero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Soria in the 19th minute of play. Carlos Soria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Germán Romero tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 25 minutes into the match, Carlos Soria notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Enriquillo's Germán Romero. Germán Romero was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Germán Romero didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. After 35 played minutes Enriquillo got a freekick which was hit by Julio Cardozo. If Carlos Soria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Enriquillo's zone, Octavio Montemayor stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Germán Romero came out of the goal and Octavio Montemayor tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Grêmio's Carlos Soria got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Soria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Germán Romero having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcelo Barela to make the kick off. Zacarías Ulibarri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Germán Romero having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zacarías Ulibarri in the 57th minute of play forced Enriquillo's goalkeeper Germán Romero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Juan Ojeda struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Germán Romero didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. With a little luck, Enriquillo's Germán Romero got control of the ball when Zacarías Ulibarri tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 62 played minutes Enriquillo got a freekick which was hit by Isandro Smith. Zacarías Ulibarri did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-2 to the left of a surprised Germán Romero 72 minutes into the match. Germán Romero made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carlos Soria in the 82nd minute. In the 82nd minute, Julio Cardozo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Grêmio booed when Enriquillo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julio Cardozo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 88th minute Zacarías Ulibarri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Germán Romero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Anthony Jara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 93 minutes into the match, Enriquillo's goalkeeper Germán Romero had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Carlos Soria. When the final whistle sounded Grêmio left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Enriquillo.
