An unexpected shot in the 19th minute by Marino Urrutia got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The attack was good, but when Arthur Salinas in the 21st minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patrick Palacios couldn't finish the play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The wind increased when Marino Urrutia made the kick off in the second half. Celestino Canellas made a great header on El Pinar's corner, it was just that La Romana's Amaury Noboa managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 55th minute, Marino Urrutia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to La Romana getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Aquilino Schultz hit a great ball. If Marino Urrutia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. El Pinar's supporters rose to their feet, but Severino Aiza was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amaury Noboa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
