In the 11th minute, one of Parajalla:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Parajalla. Modestio Lantadilla kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Rogerio Saldivia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Severiano Maritano having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Ronaldo Lallane managed to get in a good position for a shot. Parajalla's supporters rose to their feet, but Ronaldo Lallane was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Simón Gerbella might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over José Julio Acasuso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Simón Gerbella ran back to his position shaking his head. Parajalla's José Julio Acasuso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos José Delpiano in the 44th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Natalio Melinao in the 45th minute of play forced Parajalla's goalkeeper José Julio Acasuso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 46th minute Felipe Cerda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Julio Acasuso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Natalio Melinao to make the kick off.
