Martino Oliva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vicent Acuña in the 18th minute of play. Luciano Jeréz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Seran Macera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celestino Irigoyen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mario Lavanderos in the 45thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Martino Oliva, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Luciano Jeréz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mario Lavanderos blasted a shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Martino Oliva having to make a save. Mario Lavanderos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Martino Oliva read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 48th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mario Lavanderos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vincente Grez hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. After 54 played minutes Cuenca AFC got a freekick which was hit by Luciano Poyancos. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Martino Oliva showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Mario Lavanderos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Mario Lavanderos came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Vasquez fans jumped to their feet. Martino Oliva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasquez. If Mario Lavanderos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 94th minute, Luciano Jeréz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vasquez fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Vasquez fully deserved thier win.
