The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Manu Torres could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Gaspar Paillemil made a huge save. In the 11th minute, Pirineos's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Antonio Noti fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A hard shot 13 in the game by Manu Torres from a close distance when the talented Gaspar Paillemil managed to make a qualified save. Pirineos's players were relieved. Pirineos's Pedro Galiano managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Axel Gattini in the 18 minute of the game. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind CF Universidad de Chile's goalkeeper Silviano Jáuregui, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Antonio Noti received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Gaspar Paillemil came out and tried to block the shot, but Antonio Noti slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 22nd minute. In the 26th match minute, CF Universidad de Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Salas to maneuver through the defense. After 27 played minutes Pirineos got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Galiano. When Marcelo Salas fell near the penalty area in the 38th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored CF Universidad de Chile's protests and gave Marcelo Salas a yellow card for diving instead. Bairon Monckeberg struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Silviano Jáuregui didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pirineos. After 45 played minutes CF Universidad de Chile got a freekick which was hit by Marcelo Salas. After having played for 46 minutes, Pedro Galiano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pirineos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Galiano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

If Bairon Monckeberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gaspar Paillemil took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Manu Torres, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th match minute, CF Universidad de Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Pablo Durán to maneuver through the defense. In the 62nd minute, Marcelo Salas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Bairon Monckeberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Manu Torres took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gaspar Paillemil. Gaspar Paillemil dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. In the 78th match minute, CF Universidad de Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Romualdo Olea to maneuver through the defense. After 79 played minutes CF Universidad de Chile got a freekick which was hit by Romualdo Olea. The audience was convinced that Marcelo Salas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gaspar Paillemil was relentless in the 87th minute of the game. Gaspar Paillemil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manu Torres in the 91st minute of play. Romualdo Olea kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Pirineos's Bairon Monckeberg got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. CF Universidad de Chile's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
