The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jimmy Björkdahl made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reinaldo Pumaraboli in the 13th minute of play. Reinaldo Pumaraboli struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Jimmy Björkdahl didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Goodfellas. Jimmy Björkdahl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alesandro Carcamo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Goodfellas's zone, Cornelio Aguilera stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cornelio Grajales came out of the goal and Cornelio Aguilera tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Reinaldo Pumaraboli managed to get in a good position for a shot. Goodfellas's supporters rose to their feet, but Reinaldo Pumaraboli was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jimmy Björkdahl breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 42 minutes into the match, Goodfellas's goal looked a bit too open when Vicente Asenjo came free, but Cornelio Grajales reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Melozal's goalkeeper Jimmy Björkdahl, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cornelio Aguilera sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 63 minutes, Vicente Asenjo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Melozal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vicente Asenjo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Melozal booed when Goodfellas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Manuel Lecuna didn't get a good kick on the ball. Melozal's Jimmy Björkdahl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reinaldo Pumaraboli in the 78th minute of play. Reinaldo Pumaraboli could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Jimmy Björkdahl made a huge save. In the 84th minute, Régis Pimenta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Goodfellas getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Benjamín Corbalán hit a great ball. In the 92nd match minute, Melozal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cornelio Aguilera to maneuver through the defense. Reinaldo Pumaraboli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Jimmy Björkdahl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Melozal were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
