The audience thought a goal was coming when Ricart Gafo got free with Patricio Piedra in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Ñublense booed when Magallanes FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Gustavo Gorbea didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Elodio Klein prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 36 minutes into the game, Teobaldo Matte was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Magallanes FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ñublense the free kick. Teobaldo Matte hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Abelardo Molinare's late challenge caught a Magallanes FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abelardo Molinare helped the player get up and apologised. Elodio Klein stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bertrán Abaitua's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Lucián Niza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Patricio Piedra made a huge save.

Bertrán Abaitua received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Elodio Klein tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ricart Gafo took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Patricio Piedra. Patricio Piedra dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. After a rather tough play, Ñublense's Orlondón Massa got a free kick in the 60th minute.
