The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 8th minute, one of Humboldt FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Humboldt FC. If Serge Lester had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Humboldt FC booed when Vanrena AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guy Werner didn't get a good kick on the ball. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Rickey Delarosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carrol Britt in the 51st minute of play. In the 54th minute, Serge Lester made a precise shot to the right of Rickey Delarosa. Humboldt FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. If Rich Dubois had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 64th match minute, Vanrena AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dennis Chan to maneuver through the defense. Carrol Britt showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-3. Joaquin Hart's late challenge caught a Humboldt FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Joaquin Hart helped the player get up and apologised. In the 88th match minute, Vanrena AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquin Hart to maneuver through the defense.
