Linwood Melanson came out of the goal and Hobert Glover tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 21st minute of the match Chris Webb sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Linwood Melanson skillfully saved the ball. Bryan Manley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Staley, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Hobert Glover managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paris-Saint-Germain's supporters rose to their feet, but Hobert Glover was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Linwood Melanson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Edmonton getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Rodger Person hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilford Block got free with Linwood Melanson in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aldo Kilgore hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. A hard shot by Gregory Fecteau from long distance, 38 minutes into the match, got Linwood Melanson's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilford Block got free with Linwood Melanson in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Toby Lackey made in the 45th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Wayne Youngblood immediately put the ball in play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Linwood Melanson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paris-Saint-Germain's Bryan Manley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Henry Hawk in the 64th minute of play. Bryan Manley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jack Staley in the 66th minute of play. A collision led to Paris-Saint-Germain getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Jerome Jodion hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Henry Hawk in the 72nd minute of play forced Paris-Saint-Germain's goalkeeper Bryan Manley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
