After a defensive mix-up in Thornhill AFC's zone, Rupert Stein stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lucius Montano came out of the goal and Rupert Stein tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Elvin Couturier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rupert Stein's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 23rdth minute, Lucius Montano skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 27th minute, Mohammed Shipp hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Jerrod Brower had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Gooderham's Elvin Couturier, in the 35th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Gooderham. Elvin Couturier might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lucius Montano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Elvin Couturier ran back to his position shaking his head. Julien Clay charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Julien Clay the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Thornhill AFC getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Julien Clay hit a great ball. 46 minutes into the match, Thornhill AFC's Long Erickson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Herb Ricard narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Long Erickson in the 48th minute of play forced Gooderham's goalkeeper Herb Ricard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Long Erickson made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Gooderham's Clinton Lester got a free kick in the 57th minute. Ken Blackwell missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 58 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Herb Ricard right hand side. The supporters of Thornhill AFC booed when Gooderham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adolph Maynard didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Thornhill AFC getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Trey Puckett hit a great ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Thornhill AFC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
