Everett Deniger was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Luciano Gross showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 7 minute of play. Castlegar AFC's Lincoln England shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 10th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Everett Deniger but with some difficulty. After 11 played minutes Fitzgerald got a freekick which was hit by Wallace Maynard. Castlegar AFC's Hayden Sicard played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Robby Merritt in the 15th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lupe Nunez in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hayden Sicard saved Castlegar AFC from getting behind. The Fitzgerald fans' excitement grew in the 19th match minute when Fitzgerald's Robby Merritt looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Reginald Swanson fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Castlegar AFC's protests and gave Reginald Swanson a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Castlegar AFC's Reginald Swanson got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Hayden Sicard showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lupe Nunez in the 24th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robby Merritt in the 27th minute of play forced Castlegar AFC's goalkeeper Hayden Sicard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hayden Sicard showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robby Merritt, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 39th minute, Robby Merritt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hayden Sicard was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After a defensive mix-up in Castlegar AFC's zone, Lupe Nunez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hayden Sicard came out of the goal and Lupe Nunez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 79 minutes into the match, Castlegar AFC's Luciano Gross sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Everett Deniger narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Luciano Gross sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 86th minute Ben Huerta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Everett Deniger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Castlegar AFC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Fitzgerald's performance. The match ended with a win for Fitzgerald.
