After a defensive mix-up in Mooyie AFC's zone, Clyde Champion stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sydney Story came out of the goal and Clyde Champion tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ambrose Valle's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sydney Story read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Mooyie AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Clyde Champion came free, but Sydney Story reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Mooyie AFC's Alexis Jobin got a free kick in the 26th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Reynaldo Echeverri in the 33rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hugh Lange saved Whycocomagh AFC from getting behind. In the 43rd minute Reynaldo Echeverri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugh Lange saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Reynaldo Echeverri to make the kick off.
