But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that King Strange couldn't finish the play. In the 42nd minute, Brice Dunlap hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the game, Ottawa's King Strange nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jules Fagan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 52nd minute Édouard Burnette shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jasper Jarvis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 57 played minutes Nestor Carver rounded Rossburn's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-3. Alonso Buckley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Jasper Jarvis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Alonso Buckley came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Rossburn fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alonso Buckley couldn't finish the play. Philibert Cuillerier was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 78 minutes into the match. When the match had been going on for 80 minutes, Ottawa's Kraig Desrosiers got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Jules Fagan. The audience thought a goal was coming when King Strange got free with Jules Fagan in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 87 minutes, King Strange managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ottawa's supporters crossed their fingers, but King Strange was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Édouard Burnette fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jasper Jarvis having to interfere.
