When Joachim Betts came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Merritt FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joachim Betts couldn't finish the play. If Randell Monrency had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Merritt FC's Alvin Bonds got control of the ball when Stanton Loiseau tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sanford Gauthier in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alvin Bonds saved Merritt FC from getting behind. In the 45th minute, Gonzalo Whittington got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Randell Monrency to make the kick off. Alvin Bonds took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sanford Gauthier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 55th minute of the match Jacques Massey sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Alvin Bonds skillfully saved the ball. Merritt FC's Gonzalo Whittington got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 61 minutes, Randell Monrency managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merritt FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Randell Monrency was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Shelton Ménard didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Merritt FC. The Merritt FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Merritt FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
