Duane Zimmer could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Prosper Osborn made a huge save. Claude Rushing fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chas Ellison having to interfere. In the 8th minute Bruce Bates shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chas Ellison saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Prosper Osborn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carol Wells, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. After a rather tough play, Richmond's Gratien Jackson got a free kick in the 38th minute. Claude Rushing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Richmond's zone, Carol Wells stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Prosper Osborn came out of the goal and Carol Wells tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Jamie Richard fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Richmond's protests and gave Jamie Richard a yellow card for diving instead. After 46 played minutes Richmond got a freekick which was hit by Jamie Richard. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
When Claude Rushing came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Richmond fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claude Rushing couldn't finish the play. Bruce Bates fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chas Ellison having to interfere. After 72 played minutes Richmond got a freekick which was hit by Jamie Richard. Claude Rushings short, quick shot in the 76thth minute got Chas Ellison to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Carol Wells had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Prosper Osborn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carol Wells in the 88th minute of the match. 97 minutes into the match, Walsh's Duane Zimmer sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Prosper Osborn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The Richmond players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
