Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Chesterfield AFC's Patrick Garnier in the 7th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Moses Tharp was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Sexsmith through an amazing save. Calvin Lacasse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mel Lejeune having to interfere. 16 minutes into the match, Sexsmith's goal looked a bit too open when Patrick Garnier came free, but Moses Tharp reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sexsmith's Joël Bragg got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Chesterfield AFC booed when Sexsmith was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Randall Raines didn't get a good kick on the ball.
