When John Zoolingen came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Chevaliers de Québec fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John Zoolingen couldn't finish the play. With his leg Damien Frost managed to avoid a goal in the 11thth minute, when Chevaliers de Québec's John Zoolingen fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Valentin Harris received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Jay McDonough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Chevaliers de Québec booed when Casselman FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nathanael Conroy didn't get a good kick on the ball. John Zoolingen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Damien Frost read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. In the 41st match minute, Casselman FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernard Hughes to maneuver through the defense. Titus Broussard recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that John Zoolingen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Damien Frost was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. In the 47th minute, Byron Spears hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell John Zoolingen to make the kick off. Damien Frost came out of the goal and Norman Villanueva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
