Ethan Harrell struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Mike English didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Yale. In the 12th minute Franklin Bourget shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mike English saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dick Walton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mohammad Hartley having to interfere. Yale's Ethan Harrell got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 26th match minute, Sarrail was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bertrand Early to maneuver through the defense. Sarrail's Mike English played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Franklin Bourget in the 30th minute of play. Ethan Harrell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Mike English tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Josh Saunders fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Yale's protests and gave Josh Saunders a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Yale getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Josh Saunders hit a great ball. Yale's Mohammad Hartley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Teodoro Grady in the 33rd minute of play. After having played for 38 minutes, Teodoro Grady managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sarrail's supporters crossed their fingers, but Teodoro Grady was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Franklin Bourget struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Mike English didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Yale. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The wind increased when Franklin Bourget made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Teodoro Grady got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dick Walton could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Mohammad Hartley made a huge save. Mike English made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ethan Harrell in the 55th minute of play. In the 55th match minute, Sarrail was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rudolf Tatum to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Yale booed when Sarrail was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teodoro Grady didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Ethan Harrell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Yale's supporters rose to their feet, but Ethan Harrell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mike English breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
